New York/Amsterdam, 10 April 2023. Amalgamated Bank hosts the 15th Annual Meeting of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV), a network of the most progressive and socially responsible banks in the world. Under the title of “Banking on a Bolder Future”, the summit from 18-20 April will include 200 CEOs and top executives from values-based banks. The summit will explore how banks can lead the way to a more just and environmentally responsible future.

The GABV is made up of 70+ pioneering banks, credit unions and microfinance institutions from across the world. Its mission is to advocate for banks to take a leading role in shaping the economy, society and the environment with people and the planet at the centre.

The host for this year’s summit in New York City is Amalgamated Bank. Founded in 1923, Amalgamated Bank is the largest B Corp® bank in the United States and a pioneer of the ESG movement, offering socially conscious investment options as far back as the 1950s. Today, Amalgamated is leading efforts to finance climate solutions, address the racial wealth gap, and ensure that banks are better able to identify and report suspicious activity related to firearm purchases.

“For 100 years, Amalgamated Bank has been the bank where money makes change,” said Priscilla Sims Brown, President and CEO, Amalgamated Bank. “We are so proud to be part of this alliance, which is dedicated to using the power of banking to address issues like climate justice, economic opportunity, and racial equity. By bringing together some of the most forward-looking financial institutions that are dedicated to making positive change, we are providing a new model for how banking can advance the most critical issues facing our societies and our planet.”

“Every day GABV members demonstrate that banking can be a force for good,” said David Reiling, Chair GABV and CEO, Sunrise Banks. “Courage and leadership are essential to drive this positive change. As values-based banks, we have the vision to lead an industry to a more inclusive and sustainable future. We are coming together in New York to share our vision, inspire one another, and create a bolder future where banking is in the service of people and the planet.”

The GABV Annual Meeting will address Climate Issues, Racial Justice, Democracy and Economic Inequality and discuss solutions that are being implemented around the world.

A series of learning journeys will show the stories behind some Amalgamated Bank’s customers and their impact in advancing economic, social, racial and environmental justice.

Confirmed speakers include author, global health advocate and Clinton Foundation Vice Chair Chelsea Clinton, policy advocate Heather McGhee, best-selling author of ‘The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together’, and Marc Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, the United States’ largest civil rights and urban advocacy organization.
