GABV

29 November 2023

By Sonia Reinhardt, Senior Human Development Programme Advisor of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values.

Sonia Reinhardt coordinates and co-facilitates the GABV Leadership Academy. She works with (senior) leaders of values-based banks around the world to explore a joint future in which finance serves people and the planet and not the other way around. She also provides coaching sessions to create an opportunity for the leaders to reflect, grow and move towards their full potential.

In the realm of global finance, the need for ethical and regenerative leadership has never been more pressing. The Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV) has been at the forefront of cultivating a new generation of leaders committed to driving positive socio-economic and environmental change.

As we gear up for the 9th edition of the GABV Leadership Academy in 2024, it’s imperative to understand the roots of this transformative initiative and its significant impact over the years.

The initiative emerged in 2015 from a visionary impulse within the Human Development group of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV), a forum of experts in Human Resources working in the network’s member banks. Recognising the pressing need to foster leaders within purpose-driven banks, this group conceived the academy to equip these leaders with a nuanced understanding of contemporary challenges and empower them to leverage finance to address these issues head-on.

The GABV partnered up with the MIT CoLab and the Presencing Institute to develop this transformative learning experience, and this has been a successful collaboration ever since.

A catalyst for deep connections and relationships

Over the past eight editions, the GABV Leadership Academy has been a catalyst for profound connections and enduring relationships among its participants. Beyond traditional classroom settings, the academy’s distinctive learning journeys to the clients of host banks have provided firsthand exposure to the tangible impact of innovative initiatives, offering a profound perspective that transcends theory.

One of the most remarkable facets of the GABV Leadership Academy has been the transformative journey experienced by its participants. Witnessing the real-world impact of purpose-driven banking has consistently inspired and reshaped the outlook of these leaders, instilling a deeper commitment to effecting positive change within their respective institutions and communities.

Moreover, the GABV Leadership Academy Alumni community stands as a testament to the enduring impact of this initiative. Regular reunions foster ongoing collaboration, sharing of insights, and a collective commitment to advancing the values-based banking ethos worldwide.

Looking ahead to the 9th edition, participants can anticipate an unparalleled experience. As part of the GABV Annual Meeting in Italy, attendees will have the extraordinary opportunity to engage directly with CEOs from this innovative network. Additionally, they will immerse themselves in a learning journey hosted by Banca Etica, a stalwart member of the GABV and a beacon of the Principles of Values-based Banking.

The 9th edition of the GABV Leadership Academy promises an educational experience and a transformative journey that transcends conventional paradigms of leadership development. It’s a call to action for individuals committed to driving positive change through the transformative power of purpose-driven banking.

As we stand at the crossroads of finance, sustainability and purpose, the GABV Leadership Academy serves as a beacon guiding the next generation of leaders towards a future where values-based banking is not just a choice but a necessity.

Join us in shaping tomorrow’s leaders who will redefine the banking landscape and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world.
