20 March 2025, Amsterdam, Netherlands – The Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV) has released its 2024 Annual Report, highlighting a year of progress, resilience and impact in the values-based banking sector.

The report captures key milestones from the past year, including membership growth, organisational developments, engagement and collaboration across the network, the GABV’s research and advocacy work, a summary of the financial accounts and more.

2024: A Year of Celebration and Transformation

2024 was a landmark year as the GABV celebrated its 15th anniversary. GABV Executive Director, Martin Rohner, commented: “Our movement, and our network, has come a very long way in that time.

The network continued to expand its global presence by welcoming four new members: Sozialbank (Germany), Credit Human (USA), Climate First Bank (USA) and LABORAL Kutxa (Spain).

Another celebratory moment in 2024 was the GABV Annual Meeting that took place in Padua, Italy, hosted by Banca Etica. GABV Chair, David Reiling, reflected on the meeting:

During the meeting members made ‘transformational commitments’ aligned with the new pillar of the 2027 GABV Strategy: Transformation. A theme echoed in Banking on Values Day late in the year, successfully promoting our work to wider audiences”

Driving Systemic Change in Finance

In a step toward sustainable finance, the GABV  became the first financial network to endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, with 25 members banks joining the initiative. The GABV also amplified its presence at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan and this year our movement was more visible as we announced 25 of our members have endorsed the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty initiative.

The year also saw the release of The Milan Declaration: A Statement for Peace and the Finance for War. Finance for Peace research report, furthering the GABV’s commitment to using finance as a force for good.

The 10th edition of the GABV Leadership Academy was launched, equipping future banking leaders with the tools to drive transformation. Meanwhile, Banking on Values Day (BOVD) explored the theme ‘Transforming Banking. Transforming Lives,’ featuring four online webinars with over 700 registrants and extensive participation from 80% of member banks.

As the GABV continues to grow and evolve, the 2024 Annual Report reflects its commitment to a financial system that prioritises people and the planet.
