Profitable and growing, the 25 banks in the Global Alliance for Banking on Values are independent, licensed financial institutions with combined assets of approximately $100 billion. Together they touch the lives of more than 20 million people in 30 countries.

While many of their mainstream contemporaries have been hit hard by the financial crisis, this network of progressive banks have largely flourished during it. Collectively they represent a significant constituency with a powerful voice. They share a commitment to build a more sustainable future for unserved people, communities and the environment, and have developed effective ways to deliver it.

The minimum requirement for membership is a balance sheet of $50 million, with a retail offering that serves a large number of customers, and a genuine commitment to social or environmental change. Crucially, this balance of social, environmental and financial concerns must be embedded within the organization, not sit on its periphery.

Expanding Our Network

The Global Alliance for Banking on Values is a growing network. New members and prospects for membership are sourced through existing relationships, partner organisations who we work closely with – such as FMO, the development bank of the Netherlands – and direct approaches from interested organisations.
