BRAC Bank’s “Uthan Boithak” sessions bring financial literacy to families who receive money from relatives abroad, encouraging them to use formal banking channels for inward remittances. The programme has been held across four districts of Bangladesh.
Held at agent banking outlets in Chuadanga, Jashore, Magura and Lakshmipur, the interactive sessions brought expatriate families and local residents together to discuss the safety, transparency and reliability of formal channels, and the risks of informal methods such as hundi. Officials also stressed that using legal channels protects customers’ money and strengthens the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
Participants were introduced to BRAC Bank’s Probashi Poribar accounts for expatriates and their families, offering convenient savings, transactions and other financial services. Officials urged families to put remittance income towards education, small businesses, savings and asset creation, to support sustainable progress for households and for the country.
The response was strong: nearly 70% of participants were new remittance beneficiaries without a previous BRAC Bank account, and agent banking officials committed to bringing them into formal banking promptly.
Through grassroots initiatives like this, BRAC Bank is strengthening financial inclusion and promoting secure, efficient remittance services nationwide.
