FINCA DRC started its activities in 2003, when the war was not officially over. The first loan was disbursed in May 2003. Until 2006, FINCA had only one product: Village Banking, granted exclusively to women. The first individual loan was granted in May 2006. Until December 2006, the Gombe and Masina Agencies were the two formal branches of FINCA DRC – the first operational Agency outside Kinshasa was Matadi and started its activities in September 2007 Later in 2008, FINCA opened the first Agency in Katanga which was located in Lubumbashi.
On June 1, 2009, FINCA decided to expand the range of products introducing savings products to the market. FINCA DRC currently has 21 branches located in 9 out of 26 provinces, headquartered in Kinshasa. Since then, FINCA DRC has become a household name among Congolese communities thanks to its outstanding loan products and credit methods in the market.
Constantly innovating is one of FINCA’s strengths in the Congolese market. To date, the foundation has over 1,600 FINCA eXpress Full Option Points scattered throughout rural and semi-urban areas to serve the most remote populations, reduce operating costs and educate rural populations on saving habits in order to improve their standard of living.
