Mission
Charity Bank is an ethical savings and loans bank with a mission to use money for good. We are owned by and dedicated to supporting charities and social purpose organisations. Since 2002, we have used the money saved with us to provide over £225 million of loan finance to support organisations which are working to enrich and improve society. Our loans support a wide range of organisations across the arts, community, education, environment, faith, health, housing, regeneration, social care and sports.
History
Charity Bank was founded in 2002 to support charities and social enterprises with loans, and to provide people with an option to save in line with their values. Our promise has always been to enable borrowers, savers, shareholders, directors and staff to work together to create lasting social change in our communities.
Structure
Charity Bank is fully licensed, regulated bank focused on supporting charities and other social purpose businesses in the UK. All our shareholders are charitable foundations, trusts and social purpose organisations. This empowers us to keep our social mission at the heart of everything we do and our focus on helping our borrowers to grow and improve the lives of the people they support.
At 31 December 2017, Charity Bank had total assets of £159m, of which £109m represented loans to charities and social enterprises.

Loans for charities and social enterprises
We offer loans to charities and social enterprises with support from our team of regional managers who work across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to help organisations find a solution to their funding needs.
We are social sector experts and take the time to build relationships with our borrowers. We aim to give each customer a personal service, tailoring every loan to the organisation’s needs and giving charities and social enterprises the flexibility and security needed to make an even bigger impact.
Ethical saving
We offer a simple, ethical range of savings accounts and personal customer service from our head office. Our accounts are available to UK individuals, businesses and charities.
Saving with Charity Bank makes an activist out of your money. We offer a competitive rate of interest, and the money you save goes to doing good. Our savers can be safe in the knowledge that the money they invest is working hard to build a better society, and we’ll introduce them to the people we lent it to.
Benefits of being part of the GABV
Being part of a community of like-minded organisations all driven to use banking as a force for good is empowering. GAVB is a place where we can collaborate with other values-based banks that put social and environmental sustainability at their heart. Collectively we are stronger as we pursue a common commitment to finance that creates positive economic, social and environmental impact.
