In Madagascar, SIPEM Banque has launched Vehivavy Mijoro, a targeted programme that supports vulnerable women to achieve financial independence, start businesses and generate a sustainable income.
The programme was announced at the bank’s 7th Club Client event by Lanja Randriatsimialona, Deputy General Manager for Development at SIPEM Banque. She explained that it was designed to give vulnerable women comprehensive, end-to-end support to help them better face life’s challenges.
What sets Vehivavy Mijoro apart is its holistic approach. It brings together:
- vocational training in sewing, hairdressing or catering;
- the provision of equipment;
- financial support through training allowances, to encourage attendance and completion; and
- ongoing mentoring throughout the process, to ensure the new livelihoods are sustainable.
By combining skills, tools, income support and guidance, the programme addresses the practical barriers to starting a livelihood, rather than offering a single product.
Fifteen women are benefiting from the first cohort.
The programme highlights SIPEM Banque’s commitment to empowering vulnerable women in Madagascar and shows how a bank can go beyond credit to build lasting economic independence.
