The ‘International Summer School on Social Banking & Finance’ is the annual international conference on social banking and alternative finance organised by the Institute for Social Banking.
The 2018 Summer School will focus on the topic ‘Changing finance to finance change: social banking as way forward’.
The conference will take place in Barcelona (Spain) from the 8th to the 13th of July 2018 and will be held at the Convent de Sant Agustí.
This year, our partner organisation is Triodos Bank.
Details on the conference:
About 80 guests from 20 countries from social banks, alternative financial institutions, NGOs, conventional banks and other interested people such as students will discuss and gain valuable insights into the roots, characteristics, opportunities and challenges of this rapidly evolving field, from both practitioners and academics.
The Summer School will highlight the key principles for the lending side, the credit side and the supporting business of social banks.
Experts will share their best practices and explore the principles for a sustainable finance future. Participants will together explore the future challenges in society and look at new pathways for social banking in particular and the financial sector in general.
Speakers such as expert practitioners and academics, offer their knowledge in workshops that allow participants to engage with each other and build a strong network, while experiencing the field of social banks and the sectors that they are connected with.
This year’s Summer School will be facilitated by Chai Locher, (Manager Learning & Development at Triodos Bank) and Sanika Hufeland, (Managing Director of the ISB).
The Institute for Social Banking:
We are an education and research institute for socially responsible banking and finance. Since we were founded in 2006, we have grown into an active membership organisation, comprising 16 institutions linked closely to socially responsible banking and finance and a large international network.
More than 3,000 people from 42 countries have actively participated and co-created ISB’s educational events. 175 lecturers from academia and research have contributed, and 127 publications and research projects have been realised in the past 12 years. This has significantly contributed to realising our core objectives, formulated 12 years ago: educating people in socially responsible banking and finance as well as strengthening the academic and public discourse in this area.
Research side track:
As in the past, the summer school is addressing researchers and academics to join the community of practitioners of social banking and finance. However, for the first time in the 10 years summer school’s history, we will offer a special side track for PhD students and young scholars working in the field of social banking & finance as well as sustainability and ethics in banking and finance. The ISB will offer a special format for the young scholars which will allow them to develop their moderation and facilitation skills, to exchange with their peers on their research as well as to participate in the non-academic program of the Summer School.
„The ISB has been a source of support and expertise throughout my career in sustainable finance. Attending my first Summer School opened my eyes to the possibility of creating a financial system that serves people and planet.“
