December 23, 2019 – It is with deep sorrow that the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV) members and staff would like to inform the public about the passing of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG, founder of BRAC and co-founder of the GABV.
Sir Fazle was born in 1936 in Bangladesh and, in the 1970’s, after supporting the Liberation War of his country, established BRAC to address the needs of refugees in a remote area of north-eastern Bangladesh. He was always guided by a desire to help the poor develop their own capacity to better manage their lives. Today BRAC is one of the most successful and innovative social enterprises globally. You can learn more about Sir Fazle and his work at http://www.brac.net/sirfazle/.
For the GABV it has been an honour to have had the inspiration of Sir Fazle in our initial years and to have been able to build our alliance with his permanent commitment and care, as well as with the enthusiasm and support of all of BRAC’s community.
On behalf of the GABV, we extend our condolences to Sir Fazle’s family and colleagues at BRAC.
